Thanks everyone for all the help.  I have installed the developer kit software and followed all the directions.  I am in Terminal on my Powerbook G4 and I still am getting the message connection refused.  But the Palm commands work here are what they look like.

palm-generate  palm-install   palm-launch    palm-package

Then I type in palm-install (app) and this is what I get

palm-install: Connection refused

If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it!

I took the plunge today and rooted my PRE and it really wasnt that bad.  I have alot of Linux/UNIX experience so I wasnt totally in the dark.  I was able to change my phone dial pad, add call timers to the call log, change the boot screen...etc.  I didnt get much else done at work, but what else is new.  I am even thinking about setting up Dynanic DNS and try to get some webhosting software up and running just so I can say that I host a website on my phone!  Just for fun of course...

Try typing this in terminal to manually start the novacom service
Code:
sudo /opt/nova/bin/novacomd

It will ask for your password type it in then try the Palm Install command

It should look something like this:

Hi Invisible Man,

Thanks again to you and everyone on the board!  I followed your instructions and after I entered my password this is what came up.

sudo: unable to execute /opt/nova/bin/novacomd: Bad CPU type in executable

Any ideas?

Ahhh I didn't realize you are on a Powerbook G4 I don't believe the SDK works on the Power PC processors. My recommendation find someone with an Intel Mac, or a windows machine and install Filecoaster to your phone. You will then be able to install apps directly from your device, no computer needed.

Filecoaster can be found in the homebrew section of precentral.net

Thanks Invisible Man!  The SDK did install but I could not load some of the other software or use it so I guess I am out of luck!  I guess an upgrade is due shortly!!
