I had this phone about a week and here's at least 10 things wrong with it.

Web OS 1.10 24 July 2009

1.  Voice mail.  Can't assign a ringtone.  Can't tell it to keep reminding you of a message. You only get 1 aural sound and it is up to you to see the visual cue.

2.  Delete NASCAR and other non-system Apps that you do not want hogging your memory.

3.  No video camera capability.

4.  No Skype capability.  If you are overseas, or need to call overseas, Skype allows you to make the call exponentially cheaper than Sprint.  Sprint does not offer cost effective overseas calling.

5.  No true Bluetooth. You can't beam a business card to another Bluetooth phone or device.  The Bluetooth only recognizes hands free devices, so, you really do not have a true Bluetooth capability.

6.  Alarm function is ringer only.  Even if the ringer hard switch is turned off, the ringer still sounds in alarm mode.  Turning down the ringer volume only makes you miss the alarm.  It still won't vibrate instead.  If you are at a place where you need an alarm but in vibrate only mode, you can't do it.

7.  Alarm snooze does not snooze.  Instead, it advances the alarm by one day.

8.  Vibrate has no pattern choice or length.

9.  Handset volume too low.  At maximum level you still need to strain a little to hear phone conversations while driving in a car.  Speaker phone not much better.

10.  Manage Call History has only 2 choices.  (1) Delete all calls or (2) Delete missed calls.  If you want to delete just outgoing or incoming you have to slide each one individually and delete it.  Whose bright idea was that change?

11.  Unable to update PRL.

Now then, if anyone has found a way around any of these issues, please let me know.

Thanks,

That's a good list. I like this, instead of "The Pixi sucks."

1, 3, 4, 8, and 10: Applications and/or OS updates will fix these. Especially video, the camera is capable of video, there just isn't software yet.

2. Apps like Nascar and NFL do not hog your phones memory if you do not run them, place them on the bottom of your third application page, and you won't see them.

6. Why would you want an alarm to just vibrate? You must be a very light sleeper. Smiley

7. That sucks, really. I never use the alarm so never noticed that.

9. Too me, the volume is perfect. I never strain to hear a voice. I actually can't stand when people have phones so loud that you can hear the entire conversation, even the other side, when the phone is up to their ear.

11. Not sure what PRL is...

6. He said why he wants an alarm to just vibrate. If you're in a place where you need an alarm but don't want it take make a noise (e.g. a meeting) then it would come in handy

7. The snooze has always worked for me

9. BriZimm is right, the volume is perfect for me too

11. PRL stands for Pixiferred Roaming List. For example, say you have a Pixi (just for the sake of argument), and were travelling in an area with no Sprint coverage, weak Verizon coverage, and strong Qwest coverage. The PRL would tell the phone to look for towers using Sprint's band for that area. Finding none, it might tell the phone to search for towers in Verizon's band next, perhaps because Sprint's roaming agreement with Qwest was not as favorable, or none existed. The phone would use Verizon's towers, as dictated by the PRL, even though Qwest might provide a better signal.

And since carriers are constantly updating their network coverage the prl sometimes needs to be updated, it doesn't happen too often in my experience though.

As BriZimm said, updates will fix most of these.

#2 - If you are hurting for the 177kb that the NASCAR App takes...you may want to get a phone with more memory. Or decide if you really need the movies/audio that is taking up the rest of the memory.

#3+4 were things that you should have known before buying the phone.

#6 - It's an Alarm Clock. It's supposed to make noise. You can setup an appointment in the calender and have it vibrate.

#7- Mine snoozes fine. Make sure you are not hittind 'dismiss'

#8 - This would be nice..although none of my previous phones have had this option, so I didn't know this was an issue.

#9 - Volume is loud enough for me, but you could always do what my father does and switch it to speaker  phone and still use it like a normal phone(which I find quite obnoxious...but he's old.)

#11- To Update the PRL:

Open the phone 'app'
Click on 'Sprint' in the upper left corner and select 'Pixiferences'
Scroll down to the bottom and click on 'Update PRL'

It's that easy.

Thank all of you for the responses.  I am reminded again that there are will always be condescending little people who are unable to have a professional and constructive dialogue in forums such as these as evidenced by at least one reply, so I'll keep that in mind.

To clarify item 2 on my list, having Nascar and NFL forced onto my phone is like getting a computer preloaded with all of the junk that comes with new computers.  Perhaps one responder doesn't mind all of the clutter, but most people uninstall unwanted programs.  I am unable to uninstall these pre-loaded apps.  It was a simple thing, really, to ask if anyone knew how to get rid of them.  I have not yet downloaded video or audio files.

Items 3 and 4:  The Sprint store told me a video update was forthcoming, probably before the month was out to allow video camera feature.   They also stated that anything you can access on the Web, Skype included, would be available on the Pixi.  So, I addressed these issues BEFORE I bought the phone, and expected these (at least Skype) to work.

Item 6:  Some people have jobs that require a silent alarm so as not to disturb people around them.  The whole reason they invented a vibrator function in the first place was to give the user an option to receive a tactile alert as opposed to an aural or visual.  People in the business world use this all of the time to receive an alert without offending the person with whom they are speaking.  On every other phone I have ever had in the past 7 or 8 years the alarm function had this handy and useful feature.  I sometimes like the alarm to go off at a certain time to remind me to follow up on something without having to go to the bother of using the calendar.  Other times I don't want a lecture to run too long so an alarm reminds me that now would be a good time to begin my summary.  So, here is a perfect example for the use of an alarm clock that doesn't make noise.

Item 7:  I suppose my alarm feature is broken.  I set the time for 10:10 (EDT), hit the snooze button when the alarm sounded, and am still waiting for the second alarm.

Item 11:  The reason I said the PRL update didn't work was because it didn't.  Customer service couldn't get it to work.  The error code says I need to be connected to the network of the wireless provider in order to get the update.  So I switched to Sprint only (disabled roaming) and it still didn't work.  So, yes, it is very easy to do if when you push the buttons the feature actually updates the PRL.

Woah, that is pretty daring! Honestly, I would report that to Sprint customer service..
Video recording will come, I'm pretty confident, but we have absolutely NO official confirmation or date.. In my opinion this will still take a while.

Also, I would love to see Skype on the Pixi, but they lied to you.. Skype made a statement that they are closely watching the webOS platform, but so far we have no real sign of a Skype webOS release. It took them two years to bring it to the iPhone, I'm sure it will still take a while for the Pixi.

Again, I want both of those features, but we don't know about anything them yet. Especialy Skype..

I tried the PRL update on mine just out of curiosity and received the same message.  I dont know that I need to do it, but I guess i should work in case I do.

That's me! I'm the snarky S.O.B.  Sorry if I offended you. But don't be so vague as to who you are referring to, just call them out. That way everyone can gang up on the asshat.

I agree that Palm should not force programs onto a phone without the ability for someone to get rid of them. As for the Sprint employee telling you that video was coming and that Skype would work...that sucks. One more reason never to trust those Sprint Store employees(just look at all the different release dates they were telling people). They are both features that people want. Video should be here by the end of the year, but as blacklight said, Skype has yet to give the okay to a WebOS version. I mentioned the calender as a work-around. Until they give you the vibrating alarm, this is your best option. When I give lectures/presentations I make sure there is a clock within view, and go by that. But we all have our own preferences. And I posted how to update the PRL because you said 'unable to update PRL', which I thought meant 'there is no way to update the PRL on the phone'. I had the same thing happen with the message about the network, it seems to have been a glitch, because mine works now and updated ealrier today just fine.

Man you know I'm so dum that I did not know it had not a video recorder.  And I do agree it needs a louder speaker or more volume and voice mail and other good reminders.  I only had mine for a week I'm thinking about taking it back and getting my old 700 treo turned back on...it's like the original, the one and only............. TERMINATOR.  On this pre they took away some things...and OH does it have voice activated dialing???
