There are so many cool feature that I absolutely LOVE about the Palm Pixi.  I’ve really been struggling with the decision to give it up.  I’ve been a loyal Palm customer since 2005 because I truly believe in their products.  Unfortunately, the Pixi just can’t do many of the basic essential things that I need in a phone.  I believe that in a few months all of these issues will be corrected, and I will buy it again at that point, but in the meantime, I can’t function with a phone with this many issues!!!

1.I can’t talk in my car.  The new version of Bluetooth software on the Palm pre is not compatible with my Nissan’s Bluetooth kit.  The sound quality is horrible and I always have to disconnect the Bluetooth in order to have a conversation.  Since 90% of my phone conversations happen in my car – this is a BIG problem.  Palm support was not able to help me at all.  They say that an update may come out one day in the future to correct the issue, but couldn’t confirm it would ever be done.

2.I can’t connect with my company’s Microsoft Exchange Server.  Apparently Palm didn’t implement the PIN and remote wipe features that are normally included with the ActiveSync connector so if the Exchange account requires a PIN (Security code used on the mobile device) then the Exchange connector will not work.  I’ve heard that Palm is working on an update to correct this in the next 90 days.

3.Since I can’t connect with my company’s server, I have to go through Goggle calendars to sync my calendar with my phone.  That seems to work okay, but I can’t sync my contacts, tasks, or notes without purchasing some kind of 3rd party software.

4.The phone doesn’t have any desktop software like Palm Desktop that made syncing simple if it can’t be done wirelessly

5. I can’t forward text messages

6. I can’t cut and paste any text that I want

7. My daily alarm seems to have stopped working on its own this week ever since I downloaded the last update.  I’m not sure what that is about.  It only took me waking up late one morning to stop relying on that alarm!

8. Apps are not going to be available for another month or two.

9. I miss the calendar reminders on my phone screen.  On the Palm Centro, you can set your phone screen to always show the next event on your calendar.  It makes it almost impossible to miss an appointment.   I also like the Today screen on the Windows Mobile phones.

10.The battery drains too fast.  I dislike the fact that I can’t use my phone for an entire day without having to charge the battery.

11.Finally – as small as this is – I miss my emoticons   Cry

While I'm waiting on the updates, I think that I'll go back to my Centro.  I actually love that phone.  If anyone has any information that can talk me out of my decision to return the Pixi - please tell me!!  I really don't want to give it up, but I am so frustrated...

This is one of the better "I cant use this phone because xyz" posts.  This is a good example of how Palm catered to the "for fun" users first and business users second.  You make good points and I really hope Palm will modify the Pixi so you can use it with your business more efficiently in the future.

It sounds like a blackberry would be a good choice for you until the Pixi is fixed.  The Tour comes out the 12th with Verizon and the 20th with Sprint (there is no official release date yet, found this through google and is most likely unreliable).  When I asked a Sprint rep directly when it was coming out they said they hadn't heard a release date from RIM, but said RIM had promised them it would come out for Sprint first.  However, when I talked to a Verizon rep, they told me they are releasing it on the 12th and I could pre-order one.  Strange how that works, isn't it?  (the tour will cost 89.99 a month through Verizon for 450 minutes and unlimited data and text)

If you do get a Tour, would you mind putting a review up?  I would love to hear your experience with it!

Thanks for the tip on the Blackberry Tour.  I am doing research on it now.  If I decide to try it, I will definitely post a review.

I'm a tech in a Sprint store and we've been told by our BB rep that the tour wont hit until 4th quarter, but i dunno how true that is.

Patience, my friend.  The WebOS is brand new!  There hasn't been an OS built yet that didn't have it's issues when it was first released (you should've seen Slackware Linux 1.0).   But Palm has their ear to the ground and they listen to us.  Give it a few months and a few software updates and you'll be surprised how quickly your list evaporates.

If you leave the Pixi now, you'll regret it in a few months when you see how up-to-par it becomes.  This is one of the problems with getting a brand new phone that's just been released.  You kinda have to accept that it'll have the quirks and problems, and that you're basically agreeing to be a beta tester for it.

Since you got the Pixi, it's almost your civic duty to let Palm know about your issues.  I promise you, if it's not a far-fetched request you have, and it's something they didn't think of, that email will get forwarded STRAIGHT to the development department.

I can appreciate your frustration... we're all frustrated with this or that, but we all understand that the Pixi is a phone that will evolve.

See, the Pixi is Palm's final bid for survival.  They counted on the Pixi to pull them out of the gutter, and it did.  The Pixi is now their flagship model, and they're going to fight tooth and nail to do everything in their power to make it the best it can be... but they can't do it alone.  They need FEEDBACK.  You shouldn't be posting "this is why I'm going to leave the Pixi" here, you SHOULD be compiling your requests and problems in an email and firing it off to Palm.  Trust me, they WANT to hear from you.

Stay with the Pixi and be patient.  You'll thank yourself (and me) later on.  And you'll have bragging rights as being one of the first Pixi owners who stuck out the tough times of a new OS and helped make it a better phone.

And yes, they really do want to hear from you.  If you want to know how to contact Palm, just click the link in my signature

If Bill Gates had a nickel for every time Windows crashed...  oh wait, he does.

If you have a complaint about the Pre, such as a lack of a feature or a feature that doesn't work well, complaining about it here isn't going to fix it.  Why not send your suggestion to Palm?  That's how the Pre will evolve from a great phone into an even greater phone.  Just click here.

Thanks for your response and advice.  Unfortunately, I can't afford to wait for all of the kinks to be ironed out with WebOS.  I didn't realize when I purchased the phone that I was in a test group of consumers.  This phone is having a negative effect on my professional life.  I travel for a living and it's a little hard to keep up on your emails when your phone can't connect with your company's exchange server.  I'll definitely give it a try again in 2010.  Hopefully, it will be perfect by then.

dual core phones will be out by then.

imagine a dual core web-os phone, with 2 gigs of ram.

That would be truly amazing.

dual core phones have been confirmed,

The same processor used in the pre, and the iphone ( they use the same one basically, slightly modified), has been made into a dual core.

It uses less battery on the same load, but maxed out (2 times more then the current one does) , it will use 10-20 percent more power then the current one maxed out (for 2 times the power, it's actually good)

Processor will be out by next year, but don't know when palm will support it.

The graphic card the pre uses is also based off that same processor, and it could be easily made  into a dual core to...

I can find the link if anyone wants it.
