I did a little more reading and apparently this phone will be one of BB flagships. They describe it as the Storm with a keyboard.

And it seems it coming to Sprint on july 20... like I said, I never had a BB, but it wouldn't hurt to test it out. We'll see, I will try to get a Pixi by the end of next week, but if it gets close to the BB release date and there are still short supplies for the Pixi, I could give it a try to see what BB are all about!

Things that really attract me to the Tour
  • Can be used in Europe
  • Great battery management
  • Full of options and menus
  • RIM already went through the growing pains

Well, you get what you want.  Whatever makes you happy... but I'm telling you right now, you're going to regret it when the Pixi does finally come your way.  You'll be kicking yourself.

As for your 4 points?

- Who cares about Europe??  LOL (no offense to Europeans) Unless you go there on a regular basis... a VERY regular basis, that shouldn't even be in your list.

- I can show you a flip phone from 1994 that has great battery management.  A full charge will last you a week.  Why?  Because it doesn't have features.  When you compare the multi-tasking, push email, user interface, etc. etc. naturally it's gonna burn juice.  That's a fact of life.  And within the next 6 months, Palm will have more updates that manage power a little better too.  When it comes down to the wire, the Tour may end up with a little better power management, but not much more... rendering THIS list item useless as well.

- The Pixi has options and menus...  but not an overwhelming amount like BB.

- Palm went through growing pains and finished them... and went through them again, and finished them again, just as RIM was starting out.  Palm has been around longer, and revolutionized the handheld more times than any other company.  They've gone through more changes and growing pains than RIM could imagine.  Granted, the Pixi is new and has growing to do, but it's coming from a company that is seasoned and knows the ropes.  Palm invented the PDA.  They've been doing this a LONG time.  The only reason they fell behind for a bit is because they didn't keep up with the trends and times.  But they're back now, with dominance.  Palm was founded in 1992, came out with the first ever PDA (the Zoomer... which failed miserably), was acquired by US Robotics in 1995, then became a subsidiary of 3Com in 1997.  All of this before the first BlackBerry was even released (1999).  So RIM has about as much right to talk about "growing pains" to Palm as a 5 year old does to an adult.  RIM is a kid compared to Palm.

There.  Now be a good boy and WAIT for the Pixi.  If not, you'll be telling me "You were right, Linux..." eventually.

Edit:  I'd also like to point out that this is NOT the first mobile device Palm has released...  They released the Palm VII in 1999

If Bill Gates had a nickel for every time Windows crashed...  oh wait, he does.

If you have a complaint about the Pre, such as a lack of a feature or a feature that doesn't work well, complaining about it here isn't going to fix it.  Why not send your suggestion to Palm?  That's how the Pre will evolve from a great phone into an even greater phone.  Just click here.

Well, have a look at it and tell us what you think when it comes out. But I still believe the Palm is the better option.

Oh about Europe.. Linux Demon is right! You shouldn't care about that, because even if you could use the Pixi over here you shouldn't.. data roaming is freaking expensive! Wink Use a normal phone for traveling.

Honestly, a smart phone that is released on todays market without wifi is absolutely ridiculous!  There are times at work where being in an office kills my signal and I can still use most of the features solely because i can tap into the wifi.

I went to best buy today to see if they had any Pixi's in stock. I got to play with a working unit they had for the store and was pretty neat. I finally got to play with a real working Pixi and I thought it was pretty good. After a conversation with the employee there, I shared what I was looking for on a phone and what my needs are. Even though he praised the Pixi, he started talking about the Blackberry Tour and how Bberrys have a more stable OS, options and a bunch of other stuff that I didnt hear because I was still playing with the Pixi.

Over the weekend I also got to play with a Bberry Bold from a friend of mine. And I gotta admit, I really felt comfortable, the only thing that I thought it sucked was the browser (compared to the Pixi).

I guess I will wait until the Tour comes out and check it out.

About the wifi, it doesnt really matter to me. Everywere I go Sprint has great 3G signal. and for when I travel, it also supports 3g speeds.

Just get both...  I bought the iPhone 3GS right when I got the Pixi.  I will be using my smartphone a ton, so I wanted to see which one worked better for me.  I had a 30 day money back guarantee with a small 30 dollar restocking charge.  I am glad I did the test, the Pixi will be in my hands for the next two years and I wanted it to feel good about my decision.

I might try the tour. I need the keyboard, but am not a fan of the slider. Rarely use wifi. How does zooming in while using the web work on non touch screen phones? because the touchscreen isnt really that important to me.

you zoom in using the options of the browser if its supported. but BB browser is really bad compared to the Pixi. It is kind of similar to PIE on WinMo.

Btw.
I almost got a Pixi today, I went to the store again and after looking at it for about 10 min, I decided to wait for the Tour. I have been using and playing with one of my friend's Pixi and after spending a week with it, Im not sure I want it yet. Its great and all, but it is missing some of the functions that i look for. Most likely I am going to get the Tour once its released and see what happens in a year with the Pixi and Palm. Maybe I'll jump on it when the Pixi2 comes out  Cheesy

What exactly are you looking for again?

Candybar style (i actually hate slider phones but the Pixi looks very nice!)
Calendar/email with desktop like options
Can be used in Europe
Great battery management
Full of options and menus
comfortable keyboard

Those are the main ones, and I know the Pixi offers most of it... but I also learned that If I get a BB and set up my work email, they will give me $50 credit a month to pay the cellphone bill...   Cheesy

What to do, what to do?  Huh?

I honestly have to say I love the keyboard on the Pixi (I know you don't want to hear it) LOL

But I do.  I've got huge hands (I can touch the tab key with my thumb and enter key with my pinky with the same hand on a standard desktop keyboard) and I have no problems with the Pixi's keyboard.
