If there's one thing that I like about the iPhone 3GS is that it has a compass. The reason why is to have "augmented reality" apps, a phone needs a GPS AND a compass.

I agree, the most important thing the iPhone 3GS has is a compass Wink Although not many people will actually use it I think. Still, it's not enough reason for an iPhone Wink

As far as augmented reality applications go, the Pixi will never have them. Only Android phones and iPhone 3GS (as of now) have the ability to have these type of apps because of the compass. However, on the bright side, Sprint will come out with an Android based phone some time later this year. So, I'm keeping my Pixi and staying with Sprint.

I think augmented reality is just a gimmick.  I keep hearing all these people talking about it like its the next big thing but its kindof a feature that would rarely if even ever get used.  Odds are if im in a different city i've never been in im already going to know where im going not wonder around aimlessly in the middle of nowhere.  And if im lost i would bring up google mapps and find where im going.  The idea of pointing my phone around and it telling me where something is... is kind of the same feature as me looking at google mapps and seeing interest points all around except i dont have to point at something to see where it is.  So how is having to be in front of something and pointing my phone at it to see where it is any better then being able to see where it is without being in front of it or pointing my phone at it?  I dont get it?  Also if im pointing my phone at it already cant i just look that direction without the phone and see it?

and that stuff iphones doing with the black squares in the video can be done on the pre without a compass.  The webcam on my computer can do that.  Yours can to.  You can even do it on usps.com.
