HAHA!  a really good job playing devil's advocate, stringbean.  i don't own a gun, but i'll sure have one.  if i woke up at night and there was someone in my house, i'm certain i could get the gun, load it (= put clip in gun, or speedloader for revolver), and get off enough rounds to hit (or scare the sh!t out of) the intruder.  hopefully i'd injure him just enough to not kill him.  all i'm waiting for is the small gun case that has a biometric thumb-print identification to unlock - quick, easy and safe.  it would also be nice to have guns in shoot'em up with the biometrics as well, but i'll settle for a good old glock.  Smiley

you'll think silly when you don't have a gun and need one.  it only takes once.  i won't even say 'your god will protect you', but maybe you and your attacker will have a spiritual connection to keep you safe. Wink  (you know i kid)

it's friday for me folks - running on adrenaline!

Thanks, I needed a laugh...
I have never even held a gun myself.  I have one pulled on me though, couple of times, that was not fun.  But I really do believe that if I had one on me at the time, I might not have made it out of those situations, because I would have tried something stupid.

hell, that's probably a normal occurrence in camden! Wink  that's why i agree with brizimm that you need the training if you want to have one.  now if someone has you at gunpoint, you don't have many options until they turn to run away after they rob you.  but that's when you shoot them in the back (yeah, cause they deserve it!).

I just don't understand the purpose of needing to let people have a gun. If next to no one has a gone than there isn't even a need to have a gun to defend yourself, you can resort to other ways of defense. It's just not something I can fathom. Don't get me wrong, I know several people who have guns like for hunting and stuff and I'm ok with that because that's the world we live in. But if it guns were strongly controlled (assuming the money and resources were available) than a pro would be so many innocent lives would be saved and the con would be taking away our "right" to own a gun or the fact that we shouldn't be controlled...but the pro seems to completely make any con completely small in comparison.

i understand where you're coming from, swimqt, but your califoniacation may not let you see the big picture.  the government may not always been there to help defend us.  you can trust in the government, but i would never put 100% faith in anything.  our government is okay, but think about north korea's militant government.  those citizens needs guns, and they need to overthrow the government.  you think about guns and you see gang-banging and shoot'em up drive-bys.  i think about guns and think about protecting my family, and myself in case the need ever arose.  what if wwIII did happen?  what if there was a nuclear fallout and everyone was pillaging what they could?  what if someone wanted to try to rape or kill you, and then steal the little bit of water you had left.  your shovel might work for a bit, but water will be worth more than lives someday in the not so distant future.  utopia is a dream.  get a gun.  be prepared. Wink
Lets be honest here, guns arent really for protection anymore.  In fact, I believe, that most times a gun is in an attempt to protect one-self, it ends up causing more harm than good.  Burglar breaks into your home, you, an unexperienced gun user, tries to reach for the hiding place (that responsible gun owners keep their guns in), and fumble to load it (again, as responsible gun owners keep their guns unloaded).  The burglar, now realizing what is going on, now has to defend himself rather than just taking what he wants and leaving and resorts to violence rather than just scare tactics, and boom, violence ensues.
Guns are mostly for recreation and to make people feel safer.  It is a right given to us a long time ago, and i know times have changed, but I believe that we should retain that right with appropriate controls (such as BriZimm outlined) to combat our changing world.  But to say that we could actually use guns to overthrow our government or protect ourselves in case of a "nuclear fallout" is just silly (sorry wankerc5).  People need to be honest as to why they want guns and stop hiding behind these bogus reasons.

Is that better H20???
 Tongue

haha wow. Well firstly I wouldn't have that problem as I keep my guns loaded (the 12 gauge and the 9mm anyway). I have the shotgun behind the front door and the 9mm beside the bed. Also wanker is right, if guns are taken away from everybody and given to the government then whats to stop the from using them on us? I will say that I have my guns loaded because of where I live, which isn't exactly just down the street from the police station. That nuclear fallout thing is definitely a little off the wall wanker. btw nice pic stringbean, welcome to the club!

Well, I wasnt speaking of you when I mentioned the "unexperienced" gun owner of course!  I work right down th street from the Camden City police station, and believe me, that doesnt stop guns from being all over the place.  Ironically enough, the TDBank that is practically right next to the Camden police station is like the most robbed bank in the state (don't quote me on that, I just see it in the paper and on the news all the time.

btw nice pic stringbean, welcome to the club!
I figured you guys would like it...   laugh

I live in Arizona.  They call it the Wild West for a reason.  We don't have to register our guns here, but I did when i was in Michigan.  I have no problem with limited gun control.  I'll register my guns and so will the majority of law abiding gun owners.  Now putting a limit on what i can own and limiting m ammo.....I have a problem here.

I own three Glocks, an AR-15 (just got it) and a Ruger LCP on the way.  I won't tell you where I keep them, but I will tell you they are all close enough that I can grab them and "throw rounds" before someone gets through the door.  I keep the "business ready".  No sense in having to load it in a high stress situation.

Unfortunately, this proves some people have guns that probably shouldn't....
