This is Fez. Live in Virginia. By no means an advocate of polygyny, but have nevertheless fallen in love with the Pixi. It is not infatuation, it is not platonic, it is not hedonistic. But you get my drift.

I must say that my decision to buy a Palm Pixi with Sprint service was both a rational and emotional one. I mean, the Palm Pixi is beautiful and functional. And coupled with the service quality of Sprint, it seems nothing short of a revolution in the making. I believe that Palm and Sprint have (almost) hit it off famously.

I did a lot of research before buying the Pixi but overlooked at least one thing. The Pixi does not, yet, let me synchronize my e-mails between it and Outlook. As far as I am concerned, this is a drawback I am facing unless Palm comes up with a solution quickly.

With my previous SmartPhone running a Windows OS, it was a snap to synchronize e-mails and other data with one's PC. But Pixi's inability to do so is making life a little difficult for me because I have to Bcc every e-mail, I send out, to my e-mail address and then manually transfer it to the 'sent' folder in Outlook.

I hope Palm, or at least a third-party, will come up with a solution very soon that will easily let me synchronize all my e-mails, and ideally all necessary data, between the Pixi and my office PC.

Apparently not (yet?), but I guess that's because I don't know who would actually need that. You can just use IMAP, that's the far better solution and you have your emails in sync everywhere.

I would think syncing the emails would be counter intutitive.  If you use Exchange, connect through that, or if it is standalone, POP3 or IMAP.  Like Blacklight said, not sure why you would want to sync emails.

Well, let's see ... when someone sends me an e-mail, I get notified immediately on my Palm Pixi. Now this e-mail I had received is displayed on my Pixi while it is also left on the mail server for my Outlook client to download and store on the Office PC when I log-in to it later.

But in this case, after I receive a message on the Pixi, I reply to it using my Pixi and a copy of this sent message is saved on to the Pixi but it is not saved on my office PC which runs Outlook. Now, there is a need for me to have all my received and sent messages present on one computer which I prefer to be my office PC. And hence arises the need for me to have all my e-mails synchronized between my Palm Pixi and my office PC.

Now either I find a software, like ActiveSync for devices running Windows OS, which can let me complete this task or find another way. Since I can not yet find a software that can help me to achieve this task using Pixi, I Bcc all e-mails I send off with my Palm Pixi to my work e-mail address. Once I received these e-mails on my office PC, I manually transfer these to the 'sent' folder so then I have I all my e-mails in one location on one PC.

Pixiviously, ActiveSync had assisted me to achieve this objective when I used a Windows OS based SmartPhone. But now, since I am using the Palm Pixi, I am looking for a compatible software, either Palm or a third-party alternative, to assist me with this.

So this is why I need to have all my e-mails, and ideally all the necessary data also, synchronized between my Palm Pixi and my office PC.

Ok, this is why you should use IMAP (or Exchange at work if you use it), not ordinary POP3, With IMAP you basically work on your mail-server.. let's say you are on your Pixi and get an email. You read it with your Pixi. When you are back on your office PC you see that email, already marked as read.

When you send an Email, it is copied to the sent-folder, no matter on what device you are. And you see it in the sent-folder, no matter on what device you are. See it as a "real-time-syncing"! Use IMAP and all your email worries are gone.

Since we do not use an Exchange Server at work, I will try to use IMAP now to get all my e-mails organized on one computer. And I will get back to this thread soonest thereafter.

Hey guys! Thanks for the suggestions to use IMAP. I did use it and am writing to share what I think about the matter.

I used IMAP because, unlike MS Active Sync, neither Palm nor another third party developer has yet come up with a software that will let me synchronize my e-mails between my work PC and Palm Pixi.

Using IMAP provides some consolation but it has its own set of woes. The woes that I refer to are not of the 'I-ran-out-of-gas-and-the-nearest-gas-station-is-150-miles-away' variety, but rather of the 'The-traffic-jam-causes-me-to-walk-500-yards-to-work-instead-of-driving-to-work-everyday' flavor.

It is just more work to use IMAP to synchronize your e-mails. For one, IMAP synchronizes the e-mails via the internet so its efficiency is dependent on the quality of the network and Outlook scans every folder between the software and the mail server everytime it checks for new messages. This is causes an inordinate wait on my part and eats into the time I could be utilizing to actually reading e-mails and replying to their senders.

The second issue I faced was that I have to manually match the 'sent' e-mails in the IMAP folders to the those in the 'inbox' folder because Outlook does not show the identity of the actual sender but rather my name appears in the 'sender' field. Though, I can tell by perusing more who sent it but it is not apparent.

My conclusion is that while using IMAP I can get by temporarily, it does not seem like a permanent e-mail syncing solution to me and I would still prefer using a software that would let me sync my e-mails between my Palm Pixi and every computer I choose to sync it with without the use of internet.

While PocketMirror and The Missing Sync softwares let me sync the Palm Pixi with my computer, for some reason using these one can not sync one's e-mails between the Pixi and a PC. And I wonder why.

<< will never get a phone with Windows Mobile, have enough of that on my computer already Wink Android is Linux, it's good, ... Palm WebOS, and i would assume, the BlackberryOS, although i'm not a blackberry fan really, had one with T Mobile and it sucked to say the least. could be the network. but either way lots of people agree with me that windows mobile on a phone bites.
