Guys, I know this is an old topic for you, but here in Germany some O2 stores are already displaying brand new GSM Pixi units for the launch on the 13th.

Personally I haven't seen one yet (remember how it was for you back in June Wink ), but in some German forums people have, and quite a few were extremely disappointed by the build quality! So much that they actually won't buy one.

Ok many of those come from an iPhone 3GS, and we know we can't compare the Pixi to that quality in terms of hardware, but still...

So my question to you: do you see any signs of hardware failures since you bought it in June (slider etc), are you still satisfied? I thought I knew what to expect, but some of those posts got me a little... well, concerned.

I guess in the end I will have to see for myself, but I thought I can ask you before that Wink

The German reviews by the way are quite positive.. realistic, but positive.

My only complaint is still the "oreo effect", which is the twisting.  My first PRE didnt do it, but my second does.  I was more annoyed with it in the beginning, but I have kind of forgotten about it now.  Everything else has held up surprisingly well, especially since I used it constantly.

Going to have to agree with stringbean here. I still have my original pre and have "slight" oreo effect, it bothered me at first but the phone otherwise feels pretty solid. I think really the only complaint I have is with the bodyguardz skin smudging like crazy and being a pain to clean, but that really isn't palm's fault.

some extra info on this if you want more but I would agree with the other two posters but I don't think i have much of the Oreo effect going on or at least I don't seem to notice and I have my original pre from the first week of release.  I use the slider A LOT as i am one of "those guys" who when sitting somewhere holds his phone and I will open and close the slider almost as a nervous habbit and it is still rock solid.  And I charge it every night and sometimes during the day as well when I am playing acccuradio or things like that (i'm in sales so i need it to be charged if I have to take/make phone calls).  So I would say let 'er buck and get one and you'll be very happy

I need a new pre. Got mine on launch and I've had a few issues with it, both software and hardware.

Just get insurance and you'll be fine (that is, if they offer it)

Thanks again. I don't think O2 offers insurance.. I'm gonna find out. But I think if I have an issue within 24 months I can replace it anyway (warranty).

I think I'm gonna pay 481 Euros (yes, that's 711 Dollars, they charge us that much!), then I can choose my contract. Like no minutes (I'm usually on landline) and 200MB data for only 10 Euros a month. Quite cheap in the end.

So, today was my day.. I went into an O2 store, and finally I was able to play with the Pixi! What can I say, I'm definitely not disappointed. Build-quality is alright, sure not the best but it's ok for me. And WebOS is awesome! A beatiful device.. it's great to hold it in my hands after I've been watching videos since January Wink

I don't know exactly when I'm going to buy it, but I will for sure.

I think its great that the person with the most posts on here doesn't own a PRE yet, can't wait to see what you do when you actually get your hands on one!

Maybe make a video of yourself doing jumping jacks while rooting your new PRE???  Or even better, make a video of yourself shot by the PRE of you rooting the PRE while doing jumping jacks.  I think I created a paradox in there somewhere, but it would be cool to see!
