I recently got annoyed with my Sprint Touch Diamond and decided to use my upgrade to get a simpler phone (Samsung Rant).  This was before I knew about the Palm Pixi, so I wanted to either return it to get my eligibility back OR exchange it for a Palm Pixi.  I'd been told it takes a good 2-6 weeks to get my eligibility back after a return.  When I realized I couldn't live without syncing to Outlook (too many appointments and contacts  :Smiley  I'd been put in quite a predicament.  I didn't want to return the Rant to get my precious WM phone back, only to be technically ineligible when the Pixi is released.  Basically, I really needed to know the release date to decide if I should just suck it up for a few weeks and wait for the Pixi.

So, I asked about 4-5 Sprint reps when the Pixi was going to be released and I got more or less the same answers.  When I'd called the Sprint store they weren't able to tell me when the Pixi was going to be released, BUT I asked if it was going to be within a month and a half and they said it wouldn't be.  I also asked a rep in person and he'd said it wasn't going to be out for another 2 months so I'd be fine returning the phone to Radioshack in the meantime.  The Radioshack employee I'd bought the phone from talked to HER Sprint rep and she told me the same thing.  She wasn't as specific but she said it wouldn't be out for a month and a half at least.  Normally I'd say these people were talking out of their asses but they checked with their supervisors and they really had no reason to give me an answer if they didn't have one (not like they were making money on a sale or anything).  What do you think?

Let me preface this by saying that this is entirely my opinion based on my own experience selling and buying phones & post/articles that i've been reading about the Pixi recently.

Radio Shack (RS) does have an interest in you either keeping your phone or replacing it with another phone that they carry.  As a former Best Buy (BB) employee I can tell you that the retailer gets a kick-back or credit from the provider (sprint) for selling you a phone, note I said the retailer..NOT the salesman.  Whether the salesman gets a commision is irrelevant, the STORE gets the credit.  So it is definitely in the interest if RS to keep you in one of their phones so they don't lose that credit.

Why is this important, because in other articles and posts that I've seen BB has been named as the exclusive third party outlet for the Pixi, again none of this has been confirmed by Sprint, Palm or BB.  But it stands to reason that if Palm is giving an exlusive to Sprint, why wouldn't Sprint give an exclusive to, possibly, the largest 3rd party retailer of phones in the country.

RS may indeed get the Pixi, but probably only after Sprint has sold it exclusively, either through their own stores or another LARGE partner retailer in the beginning.

Actually I work at a franchise Radioshack and we make a very good commission on cell phones specifically.  They did try to keep me by telling that it would take a while to become eligible again.  They also said I could keep exchanging phones until the Pixi was released but that's just a pain.  The saleperson was going to ask if they could actually get the Pixi (after she asked her rep the release date) but I'd returned it by that time after hearing it wouldn't be out for another two months.  Regardless, I returned it now so I can go wherever I want to get my Pixi now Smiley

I think they don't know. Every single rep I talked to really doesn't know. I don't think they've been told a solid release date yet.

Are you sure it's not that they DO know and just can't tell us?  I mean, they did tell me it wouldn't be out in another month a half at the very least so maybe their supervisors know when it WONT be released lol.  That sounds silly, I know.  It makes sense that they have some idea (maybe they know the month) and just not an exact date.  I don't know this is a lot of speculation but I'm trying to figure out why they would tell me when it wouldn't be out if they really had no idea.  I mean this was 4/5 people that said at LEAST a month and a half with one saying at least two months.  It's possible they just have too much pride and don't want to admit they have no idea though lol.

If there was a solid release date it would be all over the internet and we would know it trust me.

Absolutely, I agree with Rillo.

Reps like to talk sometimes, they're just guessing, so are we. Something as secret as the release date is not passed through to the average rep.

Yeah. Since the big announcement in January, most reps have been saying 'it will be out by the end of July'. They really have no idea and all they were told was the same thing we were told. Until there is an official release, I will take what anyone says as a rumor. Once a release date is given by Palm, it will be all over the internet within seconds.

Those sons of ... Yeah I'm sure you're right which is bad for me because if I'm still considered ineligible for an upgrade and the Pixi comes out this month then I'm kind of screwed.  A rep I talked to said there should be a note on my account saying I returned the phone and it would be fine but I don't trust these reps.  They're worse then salesmen!  lol

One of the reps in Ann Arbor knows. She won't tell me though. I have been dealing with her for a long time she is very nice and all and she knows I want a Pixi. I asked her if she knows the release dater she said yes. I said any chance you can tell me? She said not a chance, and smiled. I think SOME reps know.

I dunno. I don't think she knows. That's the dumbest thing I ever heard. Palm is not all knowing and all seeing. Why are people acting so scared to tell.

My opinion is they don't know therefore the can't tell excuse kicks in.

Eh maybe not. At this point I have honestly lost just about all interest in the Pixi. I have been dealing with a broken phone for over a year I was hoping the Pixi would fix that but Palm is just taking FAR too much time. I am tired of waiting and tired of trying to find every bit of info that I can. That is why I haven't been on much lately and I probably won't be on much for quite a while. Here and there I read a post out of sheer boredom but the Pixi has really lost all it's allure to me. All these rumors coming out with nothing solid, reviewers are saying it sucks, Palm has confirmed no local sync which is a MUST for me as I have no way of getting my stuff to Google. Maybe I'll pick up a Pixi when it finally does get released but as of right now all interest is gone. I am just sick of waiting.
