ok so I've spent probably way too long trying to get my pre to root. Well I went through the whole process of rooting and blah blah blah...finally got everything setup...so i though...started putty..entered my ip address typed in 222 clicked ok ....putty screen came up....then it said connection timed out...tried that about a million more times...is there a way to root the pre using Evdo? Because that would solve all of those problems....i dont have a very good wifi connection. so...i think I'm SOL on that...but rooting via EVdo..would be awesome...so all of you techies out there...im definitely not one...can you guys help me out here!?!?!?...really would like to start doing some cool things using the rooting process...thanks!!!

Just a guess, but if your screen turns off while trying to putty it will lose the connection.  Change it to turn off after the longest setting you have (i made one for never) and keep an eye on the phone when puttying and don't let the screen turn off.  Hope that helps.

Did you go through the whole Novacomm procedure?  Did you find your IP address correctly with a site like whatismyip.com?  You cant actually root the PRE through EvDO, you can use it to connect afterwards however.  There is also a point in the rooting process where it asks you if you want to set it up for WiFi, EvDO, or both, did you select both or EvDO?

To find my IP address I just tappedthe top bar, tapped wifi, and then tapped the network I was connected to.

Do you use them for good, or for awesome?

That would be if you wanted to find your WiFi address, he wants to connect through EvDO, so he needs to know his public IP.
