virtual keyboard question

I searched around and couldn't find an answer to this (actually I didn't, but I am obsessed and have read every thread for some time now and I don't remember anyone mentioning this ).  This may be a dumb question, but how are you supposed to "close" the virtual keyboard?  I can open it just fine, but always have difficulty closing it.  Sometimes a back swipe does it, but sometimes that just takes me back a page.  The same method to open it doesn't seem to work either.  Anyone else find this a problem?
